New Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg based re-org on customer segment
After reportedly considering a reorganization plan and speaking with internal executives for several months, Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg has re-aligned the carrier into three business groups based on the type of customer segment it serves: Verizon Consumer Group, Verizon Business Group and Verizon Media Group.
The operator said each of the three groups will share corporate-wide professional resources related to the network, IT and staff support.
Here’s a description of the leadership and function of each of the new groups:
- Consumer includes wireless and wireline and is headed by EVP and Verizon Wireless President Ronan Dunne;
- Business includes wireless and wireline for enterprise, small and medium businesses and government, and the telematics business. That will be led by EVP of Wireless Operations Tami Erwin;
- And Media, which comprises the Oath assets, will be headed by Oath CEO Guru Gowrappan. That group is described as sitting “at the intersection of media, advertising and technology, helping people access and receive media, entertainment, gaming, news, commerce and other services.”
- CTO and Chief Network Operations Officer Kyle Malady will oversee the network and technology team, which will work with all three of the other groups.
“This new structure reflects a clear strategy that starts with Verizon customers,” Vestberg said in a statement. “We’re building on our network transformation efforts and the Intelligent Edge architecture to deliver new customer experiences and optimize the growth opportunities we see as leaders in the 5G era. We’re focused on how our technology can benefit customers’ lives and society at large.”
The changes are effective on Jan. 1.
