The two companies said they will also focus on the verification of end-to-end 5G solutions
Chinese vendor ZTE and Spanish telecoms groupTelefonica announced the successful completion
of the first phase of a 5G transport test at the Spanish operator’s Future Networks Lab in Madrid.
In the test, the vendor provided its new 5G Flexhaul transport solution integrating fronthaul, midhaul
and backhaul features. ZTE’s 5G transport solution comprises ZXCTN 609 based on FlexE Tunnel
technology and ZXMP M721 CX66A based on low latency Optical Transport Network (OTN)
technology.
ZTE said the forwarding latency in the test is less than 0.5µs per node, and the protection
switching time less than 1ms. The two companies said that they will focus on additional transport testing and will also perform further tests and verification for 5G end-to- end solutions.
ZTE has extended cooperation on 5G R&D with a number of operators including China Mobile,
SoftBank, KT, Deutsche Telekom and HutchisonDrei Austria.
Telstra establishes 5G testing center in Australia
In related 5G news, Australian telco Telstra has launched a 5G testing centre on the Gold Coast
from which it will trial new technologies in partnership with Ericsson.
The telco decided the location of the new 5G facility as the operator aims to carry out a 5G trial
during the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast next year.
Telstra also said it has completed the first of a series of 5G trial data calls over the 26 GHz
spectrum.
“5G will mean we can use more and different spectrum bands in order to deliver faster speeds,
more capacity and lower latency to our customers,” Telstra group managing director of networks
Mike Wright said. “This will support a range of different applications, everything from data heavy applications like virtual reality to highly reliable, low latency communications for smart cities and autonomous cars.”
