MAUI, Hawaii–Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 mobile platform is a fundamental part of most smartphones. Now that same technology is coming to personal computers. At the Snapdragon Technology Summit, ASUS and HP announced new PCs billed as always-on–no waiting for the OS to kick-in; open the device and it’s on.

“Qualcomm Technologies continues to transform the way people use their mobile devices,” Qualcomm EVP Cristiano Amon said. “At the second annual Snapdragon Technology Summit, we are excited to highlight our role in the mobile ecosystem while we continue to execute on our strategy with Microsoft for the always connected PC. I am honored to have been joined on stage today by industry leaders from around the globe to illustrate how we are driving mobile technology forward to redefine consumer mobile experiences.”

Outgoing Sprint COO Guenther Ottendorfer highlighted how a cellular-connected PC fits into an operator’s strategy. “For us this is a very important project. We have been on the forefront of offering unlimited in the U.S. for many, many years. We see great possibility and opportunity for us. Doing that with devices customers need and want is very attractive for us. We can do it by using our network in the way it is designed for already with LTE and, in the future, we’ll do it with 5G.”

“Today marks the beginning of a new era of personal computing and ASUS is proud to be paving the way with Qualcomm Technologies and other companies to develop this new landscape for ‘always connected’ Windows on Snapdragon PCs,” Jerry Shen, ASUS CEO said. “ASUS NovaGo reinvents the concept of laptop connectivity and productivity — it’s the world’s first announced laptop that is connected virtually anywhere, at any time, with the new gigabit LTE network, and lasts up to 22 hours on a single charge for ‘all-day’ battery life.”

“Mobile intensive customers want a versatile device that keeps up with their busy lives and lets them be connected to everything that matters when they need to,” said Kevin Frost, vice president and general manager, consumer personal systems, HP, Inc. “The HP ENVY x2 is designed to go everywhere with an incredibly thin and durable design built to be always connected with ultra-fast 4G LTE and Wi-Fi.”
