Kaminario and Tech Data announce partnership

Storage software company Kaminario is transitioning from a hardware to software-centric business model as the company partners with Tech Data.

Under the agreement, Kaminario will focus on IP and software, while Tech Data provides supply chain, integration and product support services for the company’s composable data platform solutions. The move signals a shift in Kaminario strategy, combining software-defined storage technology with Tech Data’s product and supply chain.

Kaminario originally made its mark with its all-flash arrays, which received highest ranking for three out of five use cases compared to 19 products in the 2017 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Solid State Arrays. Healthtech, fintech, ecommerce and enterprise applications-as-a-service companies have adopted Kaminario’s all-flash story array, according to the company.

“The cloud computing paradigm and demand for automated data centers are changing the nature of enterprise IT,” said Dani Golan, CEO at Kaminario. “This business model shift, enabled by our partnership with Tech Data, positions us to deliver the economics and flexible consumption models that cloud providers need with absolutely no compromises on our well-proven technology capability.”

As part of the partnership, Kaminario said it will deliver fully integrated hardware-software all-flash storage appliances at a disruptive industry price point. Kaminario’s latest generation of the K2 all-flash array is currently available to all resellers through Tech Data, including Kaminario VisionOS and the Kaminario Clarity support, analytics and management platform.

“Tech Data provides product lifecycle management services for technology companies that want to focus on their core competencies,” said John O’Shea, senior vice president, global lifecycle management services, Americas at Tech Data. “Our alliance with Kaminario helps them to deliver a complete solution to their customers by leveraging Tech Data’s global logistics network and comprehensive integration and product support services.”

The K2.N and Flex will also be provided through Tech Data once the products are generally available. Kaminario said it anticipates to move to a software-centric business model by the end of the first 2018 quarter. The company added it will continue to offer centralised support management for all data center implementations based on Kaminario software.
